Vensim Help

Gaming is not available in Vensim PLE.

A game is a simulation during which the user interacts with the model to make decisions as the simulation progresses. In contrast, a normal simulation model runs through the complete time span based on the initial setup of the model. Games are examples of the "flight simulator" approach, where the user participates in decisions that affect the simulation outcome for each step in time.  A  model can be run as a game by stepping through time and making changes to gaming variables defined with GAME() along the way.

You can run a Gaming simulation by clicking on the Game button.  This can be done with or without any prior simulation setup.  If you have made simulation setup changes those changes will be used in the Game.

The Toolbar will change and all gaming variables appearing on the current view will be highlighted..  These can be changed in the manner discussed above for constants, or by clicking on the button.

In gaming mode all Input Objects that you have assigned Gaming variables to will be active.  Values for the gaming variables can be changed from these sliders.  You can move back and forth between views if you have designed more than one input screen.

Use the buttons to move backward and forward through the game.  Type in the amount you want to move in the editing box to the right.  The amount you will move is called the Game Interval.  If your model contains the constant GAME INTERVAL this value will be used to initialize the Game Interval (which you can still change).  If your model contains GAME INTERVAL  the Game Interval will be reinitialized each time you start a game.  If not the Game Interval will be initialized at the Save Period and then left at whatever value you last set it to when you start a new game.

Note that you can review graphs and make use of all of the Analysis Tools even during a game.

NOTEIt is not possible to back up a game for a model that includes any of the pure delays (DELAY FIXED, INFORMATION or MATERIAL).

NOTE Gaming does not use any data compression when recording results and this means that simulation output from gaming simulations can take up much more disk space.
