Sketch Information

Scroll Prev Top Next More

When models are stored in .mdl format the sketch information is appended at the end.  This information is not intended for user modification, but a brief overview of its structure is useful.  Consider the following model:

The sketch information for this appears as:

The first line beginning \\\ marks the beginning of sketch information.  This line is repeated for each view.  Only the beginning \\\---/// is significant.

The second line beginning V300 is a version code.  Vensim versions 5,4 and 3 all use the same version code (300).  Vensim tests this to be sure the information will be in the expected format.  Only the version code itself (V300) is significant.

The third line beginning with a * names the view.  You can use any name you want subject to the length limitation of 30 characters.

The fourth line beginning $ defines the views default font and color settings for the view (when font and color are not set for a specific object the defaults are used).  This is in the format

$iniarrow,n2,face|size|attributes|color|shape|arrow|fill|background|ppix,ppiy,zoom,tf

With

iniarrow the color of initial arrows  or 0.
n2 a reserved number (16 bit integer) must be 0.
face the name of the font face as in Times New Roman.
size the size in points of the font.
attributes  one or more of BUSI for bold underline strike-through and italic.
color the color of the font.  This and all the colors that follow are in R-G-B format where each of R, G, and B ranges from 0 to 255.  The color -1--1--1 is used to indicate a default color.
shape the color of shapes.
arrow the color of arrows.
fill the fill color for shapes. -1--1--1 is used to indicate no fill.
background the background color for the sketch. -1--1--1 is used to indicate that a normal window background should be used.
ppix the number of pixels per inch in the x direction on the display the model was last edited with.
ppiy the number of pixels per inch in the y direction on the display the model was last edited with.
zoom the percentage zoom for displaying the view (5 percent means fit to screen)
tf the template flag 0 is normal, 1 means don’t use the template and 3 means it is the template view.
